"People are right to think that this record is a natural follow-up to the last Unwound record," he says. Sara Lund plays drums with a mesmeric groove and enough bombast to make even the most angular rhythms feel compelling. She tells Joe about her childhood as the daughter of a folklorist and potter; the formative experience of seeing Sheila E. and Prince on the Purple Rain tour; discovering punk rock; navigating through difficult band dynamics in the highly influential Unwound; and recovering Born and raised in Indiana, Sara Lund started drumming at age 11 and playing in bands shortly thereafter. As a teenager she moved to Olympia, Washington and was soon known as one of the “heaviest drummers in town.” She toured and recorded with the rock band Unwound throughout the ’90s and early ’00s, long before women were a staple in rock bands.

If there was any justice in this world, Sara Lund would be extremely wealthy; her work alone with Unwound, the critically acclaimed, hard-working trio who toured often and won hearts between years 1992 and 2002, should’ve made her a millionaire or at least comfortable for those retirement years.
